If only the final(?) boss wouldnt spawn his goons INSIDE me each time I hit him, then I wouldnt take that many unnecessary hits.....

Also stamina regen could be like double or triple the current rate since it spawns like 2-3 goons minimum per hit.
and eahc goon takes like 3-4 hits to die.
so jsut standing there, waiting for stamina to refresh a bit and hope you dont get hit by enemy walking into you...
is mildly annoying.

otherwise nice game! :-)

oh and, sicne I jsut tried:
power tankling through it doesnt work too great either.
your health does a bit quicker than the boss'.

okay, did it, now I'm deeply confused though...

I thought that guy there WAS the father.
but now he talks in third person and riddles?

also, if the boss is dead, why is he still held captive by it's tentacles?

oh yeah, second try of power tanking worked...
jsut to have the last health bit by taken by the last goon remaining and dying...
welp

Really cool game, the boss really teached me a lesson about patience and not to hurry things 😂

I tried running the Windows version of this game with WINE which is a Windows emulator for LINUX but it crashed my computer with a black screen and I had to log out and back in to restore my session. All my other games in .p8.png work flawlessly though. I really wish I could play this game in .p8.png format.

Hi, this game was not made with pico8 it just uses that colour palette

Thank you for making this awesome game. I love Zelda type games like this. The only problem is that none of these OS specific executable files will even open on my LINUX computer. Not even the Linux file works. I don't have any of the other operating systems available. YI tried to click on the game file for Linux and nothing happens. Additionally I'm working on building a neat collection of .p8.png games that works with my Pico8 virtual console launcher. Thus I am asking if you would please convert this game into .p8.png as this is the only playable format I can use on my computer.

why is this tagged pico-8, it was not made in pico-8

almost like pico8 is also just a colour palette anyone can use for anything huh

i know like why

Sooo I know this game came out 4 years ago but could you update the Mac OS version so I can play it or put it on the Pico-8 website or something?

I was wondering that too but it is a gamemaker game

is like The Legend Of Zelda. i love this game

It was.  Thanks

Looks hella-fun.  I'm playing it

Nice fantasy story!

Good Game! 10/10

thank you for such a beautiful game, incredible art and detail

Really cool. Enjoyed playing this!

I love this game, and fancied playing it again on my Linux machine, but it wouldn't start. When I tried executing the binary in the terminal, I got the following error and no game window:

"./Legend of Xenia: error while loading shared libraries: libcrypto.so.1.0.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

I get this message even after installing both the libssl and libcrypto apt packages to my system. How can I get the game to run?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ tbh

Yeah, I just ended up running the Windows version through WINE in the end. To this day, I haven't been able to beat Skullsquid. I just get keep getting overwhelmed by flaming skulls! Also, please update Legend of Xenia 2 to have an ending. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just let Xenia say goodbye to the ghost of her father or something in a final cut-scene. Your work really inspires me, by the way. I just thought I'd mention that.

Did you ever figure this out? I can't figure out where it's looking for the shared library, because the correct file is definitely present on my machine.

wine exists

oh no not that type of wine

If I wanted to use Wine, I'd be looking at different games. I want to play games that work natively. I'd rather not have Wine on my computer.

See my reply to the parent post for running this.

The "official" solution would be to install everything listed here: https://help.yoyogames.com/hc/en-us/articles/216754458-Setup-Ubuntu-And-GameMake...

But, that's overkill and could install some lib versions that don't work either.

The easiest solution is to download the game where I just solved all of these issues (libcrypto is just the tip), River Raid Squadron.  Copy it's lib folder and launch script (rrs), and edit that script to start this game instead.  I just tested that process with Xenia and it works.

https://juanitogan.itch.io/river-raid-squadron

If you are missing some common 32-bit libs, you will also need to read this:

https://juanitogan.itch.io/river-raid-squadron/devlog/175520/linux-32-bit-game-o...

If you want the full gory story of how I solved this and how to make your own lib folder, I blogged it here:

thank you

When I beat the octopus boss nothing happens and the music stops. I don't know if i'm doing something wrong or if it's a problem. Nevertheless, good game :)

I know this is late but in case anyone else is wondering the same in the future, you have to interact with her mother.

Yeah I totally forgot about this, lol. Don't even remember if I actually beat it or not. Thx anyways

Hi! I really liked your game. Can you please send me the source code so I can add some things to improve the game.

Translated from Idiot to English, "pls give game code so can steal thx"

Great job! You've made an instant classic! Thanks for doing a Linux version.

You should add a web version! PICO-8 supports it, no?

(+1)

This is not made in PICO-8.

(+1)

Oh, that's weird. It came up on the PICO-8 tag when I was browsing for games, strange.

(1 edit) (+3)

I tagged it because it uses the PICO-8 colour palette, even though it is not made with PICO-8. A few people have been confused about this in the past ^^

Now that I'm looking at the game's metadata, I see PICO-8 is also somehow listed in the "Made with" category, which is definitely a mistake, I'll see if I can at least fix that.

Ah cool, I was wondering why it was tagged Pico-8. That's cool you made a game with that palette!
